Its been remarkable learning about Queen and how they rose to stardom. As an Iconic symbol of a magnificent showman, Freddy Mercury was an amazing composer who also worked in all genres of music, not just rock.
Freddy Mercury was a big fan of this ground breaking silent movie from 1927 called "Metropolis". It has a futuristic theme which foretold the fate of mankind. Similar to George Orwell's 1984, the future did not look good for society.
Queen featured images on their album cover "News of the World", depicting a robot (that I nick-named "Andy").
A representative of the rock Band Queen approached me to produce sculptures for a museum they were creating in Nevada featuring many aspects of the 'News of the World' Album including Andy (robot) and Maria in the Tube (from the movie Metropolis).
Here are some images of my work.
The Queen museum will be featuring many aspects of the 'News of the World' Album including Andy (robot) and Maria in the Tube (from the movie Metropolis).
This is a maquette of Andy from the Queen album cover. He was constructed as a display piece for the Queen museum project. This small scale model is a sample of what a life-like piece would look like when actually created for a client.
The museum wanted to make it look like a life size Andy robot was breaking through the side wall of the museum. This photo is a small scale version of what the life size model would be like.
A photo taken from the 1927 movie Metropolis, Maria is shown in the tube
Constructed from a fiberglass mannequin, Maria was custom made in our Spiritwest studios.
This is a photo of Maria in the tube that was reproduced by Spiritwest Entertainment for the Queen museum in Nevada.
