Laszlo J. Katona is a film industry world-builder, art director, and sculptor with over 25 years of experience shaping physical and visual environments for screen. His work bridges concept, material, and story—bringing cinematic worlds into existence through form, scale, and authorship.
Early in his career, Laszlo was sent to film school as an art director through the sponsorship of Frank Giustra, founder of Lionsgate. While formally trained in visual leadership, his path led him deep into hands-on production, where he spent decades building worlds from the ground up within the Construction Department—learning how ideas survive real-world constraints, crews, timelines, and materials.
Laszlo has contributed large-scale sculptural and environmental work to major studio films and television series including Watchmen, The Christmas Chronicles 2, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Altered Carbon, Peter Pan & Wendy, and Shōgun. In parallel, he served as art director on The Boxing Day Classic, a short film that received Best Screenplay recognition at the Whistler Film Festival.
Today, Laszlo brings that ground-up mastery into art direction, world-building, and mentorship. His focus has shifted from execution alone to authorship—guiding visual language, shaping environments at the conceptual level, and passing forward a practical, reality-tested approach to cinematic design
