On display at Lorimer Lodge in Whistler B.C.

Title: Bluebird Morning

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

Size: 30” x 40”

Artist: Laszlo J. Katona

Description & Interpretation:

Set against the dramatic backdrop of alpine peaks, Bluebird Morning by the Lifts captures a crisp winter morning in a vibrant ski village called Whistler. The snow sparkles under a clear blue sky, as skiers and snowboarders head to the lifts with excitement in their stride. Warm golden light spills from chalet windows and café umbrellas, welcoming both locals and tourists alike into a scene that feels alive with anticipation and serenity. The towering mountains in the distance serve as guardians of adventure, while the ski lift cables slice the sky with promise. The figures in the foreground move with a shared sense of purpose — the joy of the slopes and the comfort of community.

This piece celebrates the balance between human activity and natural grandeur, reflecting Laszlo J. Katona’s cinematic storytelling style and mastery of atmospheric mood through brushwork and composition.

Collector’s Note:

Original artwork. Signed by the artist. Comes with a certificate of authenticity. A unique addition to any winter lover’s collection or alpine retreat.

My Inspirations

I design, shape, and guide cinematic worlds.

My work lives at the intersection of art direction, world-building, and physical storytelling—where ideas move from concept to form, and environments support character, tone, and narrative.

With over 25 years inside film and television production, I bring a ground-up understanding of how worlds are actually made. I’ve spent decades sculpting and fabricating large-scale environments within the Construction Department, learning how vision holds up under real constraints: crews, schedules, materials, and pressure.

Today, my focus is on visual leadership.

I work as an art director and world-builder, shaping the visual language of projects at the conceptual level, guiding form, scale, texture, and spatial storytelling—while mentoring teams and emerging artists with practical, reality-tested insight.

Whether leading design, developing environments, or teaching the craft behind cinematic worlds, my role is to ensure that vision and execution speak the same language

A patchwork of memory, ocean breeze, and forgotten craftsmanship — Coastal Mosaic is a vivid dreamscape that invites you to step into a place where time slows, color sings, and the handmade soul of the coast comes alive.

Inspired by coastal life in the Florida Keys and the makeshift architecture of weather-worn seaside villages, this piece explores the idea that even in the most humble structures, there is magic. The multicolored panels represent the fragments of stories, memories, and salvaged materials that build not just homes, but identity.

Perched on stilts above the shifting sands, the house becomes a sanctuary—vibrant and alive against the gentle backdrop of a serene ocean and a fading sun. The solitary boat, painted in the same color rhythm, rests below as if waiting to carry away dreams or burdens.

This is a place where time pauses. A place that might only exist in dreams, memory, or childhood imagination. Yet, through its fantastical color and layered texture, the painting reminds us that beauty often grows from the forgotten, the reused, and the weathered parts of life.

Artist Statement (Laszlo J. Katona):

“I often find my greatest inspiration in things others overlook—scraps of wood, broken shingles, rusted metal, the wear of time on a coastal shack. This painting is both a love letter to the handmade and a nod to the beauty of imperfection. My work is rooted in storytelling, built from a lifetime of cinematic design and sculptural craftsmanship. In this piece, I let the colors tell the tale—each panel of the house like a frame in a film reel, holding memory, light, and life.”

Art is not what I do, it's how I remember who I am. - Laszlo

    Seeing beyond a vision

My artwork is where world-building begins before the camera arrives.

These pieces exist at the intersection of sculpture, concept development, and cinematic thinking. Some are exploratory—studies of form, texture, and scale. Others function as physical concepts: environments, artifacts, and structures that suggest story, character, and history through material alone.

Years of working inside film production have shaped how I approach art. I don’t create objects in isolation—I build fragments of worlds. Every surface carries intention. Every form implies use, age, weight, and narrative presence.

This body of work informs my art direction practice directly. It is how ideas are tested in three dimensions, how visual language is refined, and how imagination is grounded in reality before a crew is ever assembled.

Whether presented as standalone sculpture or as part of a larger cinematic vision, these works reflect a single throughline:

    form in service of story
